Book review 사랑에관한 무수한 정의 - ( | 2009-11-12 Write) Star point : 제목 그대로 이 책의 내용은 왜 나는 너를 사랑했고, 왜 너는 나를 떠나갔는지, 왜 나는 이 지긋지긋한 과정을 또 피해갈 수는 없는 건지, 아무리 생각해도 알 수 없는 질문에 대한 대답을 찾아내려는 과정을 보여 주고 있다. “사랑”이라는 단어와 가장 모순되는 단어 “왜?” 너무나도 평범하고 현실적인 두 남녀가 만나 서로 사랑하고, 그리고 결국 끝나는 그들의 이야기. 그 과정속의 심리적인 변화나 갈등을 작가는 너무나도 명쾌하게 설명하면서 신기할 정도로 공감 가는 이야기가 되었다. 나를 사랑하는 누군가가 생기면 왜 열등한 나를 사랑하는지 의심을 하고, 사랑이 시작된 후 날 바라보지 않으면 두려워한다. 그리고 이별은 정해진 운명처럼 다가오고, 다신 사랑을 안 믿고 안 할 듯이 금욕적인 생활을 다짐하지만(때론 자살이라는 극단적인 선택을 하는 사람도 있다) 또 다른 사람을 만나면서 그전의 모든 것은 잊어버리고 이번엔 진짜 운명적인 사랑이라고 믿는 사랑의 과정. 책을 읽으면서 사랑에 대한 무수한 정의에 대해 생각해 보는 시간이었지만, 나에게 누군가 왜 자신을 사랑하느냐고 묻는 다면 난 또 진부하지만 가장 정답에 가깝다고 생각하는 대답, 그건 바로 너이기 때문이야. 라는 대답 밖에 할 수 없을 듯하다. 알랭 드 보통의 시각에 놀라다. - ( | 2009-11-03 Write) Star point : 알랭 드 보통은 꽤 유명한 작가다. 하지만 그 동안 그의 책을 한번도 읽어본 적이 없었다. 우연한 기회에 읽게 된 이 책, 학교를 오가면서 읽기 시작했는데 그 흡입력이 대단하다. 장편 소설이라 조금 부담스러워 할 수도 있겠다. 하지만 이 책을 조금만 관심있게 읽게되면 금방 빠져들 것이다. 내가 이 책을 읽으면서 가장 놀랐던 것은 첫번째로 알랭 드 보통의 관찰력이다. 사람이라면 누구나 한번쯤은 겪는 연애, 유행가 99%의 주제가 되는 그 사랑, 다들 너무 사랑사랑해서 우리에게 너무 친숙하다 못해 식상해져버린 그 연애라는 주제로 우리의 획일화된 사고를 깰 수 있게 만든 것은 바로 작가의 관찰력이다. 한번쯤 겪어본 아주 사소한 일에서 큰 의미를 찾아내는 작가의 관찰력은 박수를 받을만하다. 아마 이 책을 읽으며서 남자들은 주인공인 나에게 크게 공감했을 것이다. 이 책을 읽은 내 주변의 남자들도 크게 공감했으니까. 이 책을 읽는다면 과거에 자기도 왜 그렇게 행동했는지 모르면서 한 행동들, 자기가 생각해도 비이성적이지만 무엇인가에 홀린듯 한 행동들. 그 행동들의 이유를 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 주인공인 나와 그의 연인 클로이가 비행기에서의 첫만남에서부터 클로이의 변심으로 헤어짐에 이르는 순간까지 우리는 그들에게서 현실의 연애와 다른 큰 상이함을 느낄 수 없다. 그들의 이야기 연애 이야기는 곧 내 이야기고 또 내 친구의 이야기며 또 지나가는 낯선 사람의 연애이야기인 것이다. 이렇게 너무나도 진부한 연애의 이야기에 더욱 흥미를 느끼게 만드는 것은 작가의 두번째 장점인 의미부여이다. 일상생활 속에서 일어났지만 크게 의미두지 않았던 일들에 대해 작가는 깊은 관찰을 통해 누구나 공감할 만한 의미를 부여한다. 그 의미를 깨달으면서 이 책을 읽으면 아 맞다, 이런 마음때문에 이런 일이 벌어졌구나 하는 공감을 할 수 있을 것이다. 한 번쯤 사랑해본 사람들이 이 책을 읽는다면 독자 자신 뿐 아니라 독자가 사랑했던 사람들의 연애에 있어서 이유 모를 비이성적인 행동에 대한 답을 찾을 수 있을 것이다.
